Collagen Aids Fight Against Osteoarthritis
If we lived long enough it’s likely that we’d all suffer, in some degree, from the most common form of arthritis –osteoarthritis. The reason is that the normally smooth covering of the articulating surfaces of our joints – particularly the hip and knee joints – get damaged by excessive wear and tear and the carrying of excess weight. For some, the cause of osteoarthritis may be an inherited tendency.
Taking regular, comfortable, exercise is part of the answer. The rest of the answer is eating a healthy diet. By these means we should avoid the condition until well into our 8th decade or even longer. This life-style of healthy measures helps to prevent and relieve symptoms and repair the damage caused by arthritis, osteoarthritis in particular.
The symptoms of osteoarthritis – pain and stiffness – occur because the normally smooth, articulating surfaces of the joint suffer pitting and other damage. When this is severe enough the roughened surfaces literally grate together as they move. This roughening often starts at about the age of 30, although it doesn’t cause symptoms at first.
Nutrients such as protein, fats, vitamins and minerals are the essential building blocks for all our tissues. They maintain cartilage in a healthy state, as well as the bones themselves. This is why better understanding of nutrition has been a constant quest for researchers – and sufferers. Increasingly we read about research that suggests that our diet doesn’t always contain an optimum amount of what our bodies need. And that’s where dietary supplements come in – in this instance, collagen.
Collagen Hydrolysate is a readily absorbed ‘food’ that contains specific nutrient particles required to keep cartilage healthy and provide the ‘building materials needed for prevention, repair and symptom relief. Recent, detailed research of the kind used to test medicines has been undertaken in the USA, UK and Germany. Researchers used 10gms of Collagen Hydrolysate given daily. Improvement in pain was observed overall in people with the most severe osteoarthritis of the hip and knee – and some benefits were also observed in sufferers with less severe symptoms.
The research also showed that the body made available more of another nutrient essential for healthy cartilage production when Collagen Hydrolysate was being taken. Our natural hormone calcitonin, which has benefits in preventing the bone ‘thinning’ condition osteoporosis, seems to be enhanced when Collagen Hydrolysate is taken.
Collagen Hydrolysate is similar to gelatine, which has long been used in the manufacture of foods and medicines – so it is known to be free from worrying side effects.
The Collagen Collection from Natural Laboratories is the only collagen supplement available that meets all the research criteria. The product is available in 10gram sachets and a months supply costs £39.95.
