A study by the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Milan (Prof. Morganti, 1983) showed that the activity of hair follicles was - directly or indirectly - increased by the consumption of collagen. Results taken from patients after a three-month treatment showed an increase in hair diameter of up to 49% in some cases, with an average increase of 35%.

A study by the Department of Food Research and Nutrition in New Jersey (USA) in 1976 concluded: “Approximately 70% of the subjects showed increases in hair diameter ranging from 5% to 45%. Within six months after cessation of the collagen dosing, hair diameter reverted back to its original level.”
